Privacy policy
Last updated October 21, 2026
Igloo is a private app for families who live apart. This policy explains what we collect, who can see it and what you can do about it. Igloo is run by Ubuilda Pty Ltd, an Australian company ("we").
What we collect
We only collect what Igloo needs to work:
- Your email address, to send you sign-in codes.
- Your profile: the name you choose and, if you add them, a picture, a city label and a time zone.
- Your circles: which circles you're in, your role, and invitations you create.
- What you share: moments (photos and captions), answers to questions, replies, hearts, hellos (drawings and photos) and reunion plans.
- Settings such as kids mode, which only you can see.
- If you allow notifications, your phone's notification address, its language and the circles you've muted.
- Crash reports: the type of error, where in the app it happened, and your phone's model and system version. They never include your name, what you shared or your IP address.
- Reports you make, and people you block.
Before a photo leaves your phone, Igloo saves a new copy without its hidden details, such as where it was taken. Unsent drafts and your daily reminder stay on your phone. We don't use your location, your contacts or advertising identifiers, and Igloo has no ads and no analytics trackers.
Who can see what you share
- What you share goes only to the circles you choose. Nobody outside them can see it.
- An answer to a question stays hidden from others in the circle until they add their own, or for 48 hours.
- A hello is seen only by the people you send it to.
- People in your circles see your name, picture, city label and local time.
- If you block someone, neither of you sees what the other shares.
- If you leave a circle, what you shared there stays, unless you choose to delete it as you leave.
When we look at what you share
We don't look at your photos, answers or messages. The exceptions are when someone reports something to us (we look at what was reported so we can deal with it), when you ask us to help with something specific, or when the law requires it.
A report records what was reported, who shared it and who reported it, never a copy of the post. We keep reports only as long as we need them to deal with the problem and stop it happening again.
Services we use
A few companies help us run Igloo. They handle your information only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase stores your account and what you share, in Sydney, Australia.
- Resend sends sign-in codes and support email.
- Expo, Apple and Google deliver notifications.
- Sentry receives crash reports, in the United States.
- Vercel hosts tryigloo.app, and Better i18n delivers the app's words in your language.
Some of these companies process information outside Australia. We choose providers that protect it to a standard similar to Australian privacy law. We never sell your information or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- What you share stays until you delete it or your account. Deleted photos leave storage within a day.
- Deleting your account removes your profile and everything you shared straight away.
- Records of notifications we've sent are removed after three days.
- Crash reports are kept for up to 90 days.
- Copies in our database backups are overwritten within 7 days.
When you delete your account, we keep one anonymous record: the month you joined, the day you left, and whether you ever shared something. It helps us understand how many people stay, and it can't be linked back to you.
Children
You must be at least 13 to have an Igloo account, or older if the law where you live requires it. Children can still be part of family life on Igloo through a parent: kids mode suggests things to do together, and parents may share photos of their own children with their circles. Please share photos of other people's children only with their parent's permission. If we learn that someone under the minimum age has an account, we'll delete it.
Your choices and rights
- See and change your profile in the app at any time.
- Delete anything you've shared, or your whole account, in the app.
- Turn notifications off in the app or in your phone's settings.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it, by emailing support@tryigloo.app.
If you're in the European Union or the United Kingdom: we use your information to provide the service you asked for, to keep Igloo safe and working (our legitimate interests), and for notifications with your permission. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights too, such as objecting to how we use your information.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, tell us first and we'll try to put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au) or to the data protection authority where you live.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
